Digital Transformation

About two and a half years ago, TOTVS noticed an accelerated movement of the software market towards cloud computing. With an eye on the transformation that was taking shape, the business solutions provider redesigned its applications and established a strategy based on cloud computing. Resolved to technological migration, the company created TOTVS Integra, a commercial model for offering hybrid cloud services, from its own data center and the infrastructure contracted from public cloud providers.

The new market approach model, however, required a robust cloud infrastructure capable of supporting an intense volume of data and transactions generated by customers who quickly adhered to the software subscription model. The challenge led TOTVS to invest in a platform supported by Cisco UCS servers, ensuring efficiency in data traffic between applications with a throughput of 40 GB.

As explained by Vinicius Mendes, Executive Manager of Cloud Computing and Data Center at TOTVS, the delivery of services through the cloud became a standard for the company, which proved to be a challenge in terms of scalability, especially when sizing the project. "That's why we looked for technologies that would give us the flexibility to grow," he explains.
Weber Canova, Vice President of Technology at TOTVS, says that the cloud area plans included three initiatives: approving public cloud provider partners, remodeling how they worked with private cloud, moving from traditional service delivery to development in OpenStack, and developing a platform to orchestrate the solution delivery transparently to the client, providing the same experience regardless of the environment, whether public or private.
When starting the market research to decide the supplier, the company sought performance and scalability, selecting the Cisco solution, in a project carried out by the integrator Vortex. "They actively participated in the project, contributing to accelerate the solution adoption," says the executive.

Operation

As they run in multicloud, TOTVS products present diversified processing demand, especially when the client customizes the solution. "It is necessary to have the capacity to deliver it at the same minute, which requires scalability and performance," he cites.
The technology proved efficient in delivering the subscription service due to the performance of UCS servers, capable of supporting a large volume of data, declares Mendes. Furthermore, the technology reduced costs with environment management and investments in network expansion.
Added to the results are the performance and resilience of the automatically orchestrated Nexus 9000 network switches. "Automation also optimized our resources for environment management," says Mendes. "All in all, the return on investment (ROI) of the project is already being achieved," he states.

Dividends

Five advantages of Cisco UCS servers, according to TOTVS:
1-Support large volumes of data
2-Reduce costs with environment management
3-Optimize investments in network expansion
4-Ensure high performance and resilience of network switches
5-Simplify data center infrastructure management
